A great example of how small designers here in the UK are finding clever and stylish re-uses of everyday objects, Hot Bottles are glass wine bottles which have been recycled and transformed into these desirable individual serving boards.

They look great as a centre-piece on the table but where they really come into their own is when used as cheese boards or for serving up nibbles like olives or sushi.

Melting the recycled glass to make the flat bottles in the kiln requires 30% less energy compared to melting the raw materials to make new glass bottles and jars

Recycled glass products also reduce the need for limestone, soda ash and sand as each tonne of glass recycled in the furnace replaces 1.2 tonnes of raw materials to make new glass.

The flat bottles are made by Jane at her studio in North Shields on Tyneside. All the bottles are collected from the local recycling plant and from a local Italian restaurant.

The studio were the kiln is based is within an artists cooperative building were tenants share rent, electricity and water costs.
